RAS102, PROJECT 3 “ ISOLATION CABIN ”

There are many terms used for ISOLATION during this pandemic time. The most frequent terms that are being confused are QUARANTINE and ISOLATION.

In medical terms, QUARANTINE may refer to someone has been exposed to a medical issue and may be asked to self-quarantine by staying at home or a certain place under strict guidelines. ISOLATION is define as to individuals who may contract in any situation or exposure to certain issues such as disease and will be put into isolation either in a hospital or at home. This will prevent others from getting sick or in touch with you.

In this project brief however, the ISOLATION CABIN is meant for individual to self-isolate in a cabin preventing others from getting in touch with you. According to Cambridge Dictionary (2020) and Merriam Webster (2020); ISOLATION can be defined as condition of being alone. In addition it is also a condition of being apart from all human beings or of being cut off by wish or circumstances from one's usual associates.

3A SITE SYNTHESIS & PRECEDENT STUDY

3B PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
  • To expose the students with the challenges of designing a comprehensive structure and multiple space and functionality.
  • To enhance the student’s ability in designing a creative space with a total understanding of human physiology, ergonomic (including disable needs) and comfort factors based on technical knowledge.
  • Mastering and increasing the techniques and skills of manual drafting drawing and design idea communication through a set of presentation drawings.

3B DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:

The student is required to design a SINGLE STOREY small liveable ISOLATION CABIN that caters (private place/private retreat/ workroom/ any activity within the compound) during isolation period.

The proposed design should accommodate 1 (ONE) person and need to include bathroom, small pantry, sleeping area, workstation, living area, and open deck. The student is allowed to include any other facilities and amenities that deems appropriate and necessary as long as it’s within the site area.

  • Proposed built-up area is not MORE THAN 40M2 (INCLUDES OPEN DECK)
  • Dimensions (Length and width) of the building: Free to propose.
  • Dimension (Height): LIMITED TO 7.5 METERS (from ground floor level to roof edge)
  • The proposed design should consider PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES obtained from the SITE SYNTHESIS.
  • The proposed design MUST CONSIDER ALL ELEMENTS IN THE SITE ANALYSIS.
  • Disable Design Requirements are OPTIONAL.
