RAS203 Project 1 : VILLA MAYA 2-Storey Tropical Retreat House

Assalammualaikum, my name is Muhammad Nuqman Hakim Bin Nasharuddin. For this posting, I'm going to tell and show the journey of our Project 1 which is Villa Maya ( 2-Storey Tropical Retreat House).

We are required to design a Villa for our client which is Maya Karin

I hope you guys enjoy and steep into this posting as I am.

Clients Introduction

Maya Karin Roelcke is a Malaysian and German film actress, television host, and singer. Now she is one of the leading and established actresses in Malaysia’s local film industry, she garnered wide recognition from the critics and public for her award-winning and memorable performance in her movies.

Maya Karin also has been passionate about the environment. She is actively involved in various campaigns for environmental and animal protection and often works with the Malaysia Nature Society and World Wildlife Fund (WWF). She also has been involved with schools to create awareness of excessive use and waste of plastic bags and become ambassador and spokesperson for the recycling initiative for the Geological Institute of Malaysia. Maya has been appointed as the ambassador for River of Life. Maya is chosen based on her continuous efforts in promoting the need to preserve and conserve the environment.

 Always being under the surveillance of the media (of whatever she does, and wherever she go) have made Maya looking for a more secluded area in Penang/Port Dickson for her tropical retreat house where she can relax, get inspiration without any disturbance.

Since Maya are also a strong believer in living in a more sustainable house, she wants her retreat house to be eco-friendly, energy-saving, utilizing passive design strategies, comfortable, calming with a natural breeze, and surround by beautiful landscape.

Propose Site

• Dining area

• Master bedroom

• 2nd Bedroom

• 3rd Bedroom

• Home office/study room

• Landscaping

• Swimming pool (allowed)

(these are the basic spaces expected to be included in the design, however, a more elaboration of additional spaces is anticipated)

Project Objective

• To demonstrate knowledge and practice in the process of producing a schematic design proposal for multiple functions and double-layer building;

• To understand the design concept in producing creative ideas;

 • To apply the understanding of the architectural design elements and principles with the appropriate use of forms and clear structural grid approaches to optimize space functions;

• To enhance student’s ability to critically analyzing the common issues of residential development, especially in terms of overall site planning, the end-user needs, and the possible effects of the development to its surrounding;

 • To establish a positive relationship between the proposed design to the existing surrounding environment and other structures to the site;

• To understand the integration between horizontal & vertical circulations;

• To intelligently decide on construction and detailing which reflects the integration of environmentally friendly structures, materials, and services most appropriate for multiple functions and double-layer building with post & beams and short to medium span structures;

 • To apply passive approaches for environmental comfort and energy efficiency by maximizing the utilization of natural ventilation, daylighting, solar shading, vegetation, etc.;

• To develop skills and techniques in manual architectural graphic presentation, with the use of dry, wet, or combination of both dry & wet techniques for coloring; and

 • To apply passive approaches for environmental comfort and energy efficiency by maximizing the utilization of natural ventilation, daylighting, and solar shading in the design.
